KIOL Concept
Many people have been locked out of accessing their dreams careers and other professional qualifications by the traditional residential systems of education. Some of the common barriers that hold people back from attending face to face regular classes include:-

a)         Time:
Many people are tied up by various life commitments e.g.  employment, family obligations hence they are not able to attend traditional face to face regular classes.

b)         Distance:
We live in different places where learning institutions may not be accessible to all people. Many institutions of learning are located in urban centers, thus denying those living or working in rural areas access to learning.

c)         Finances (High Cost):
Many people are not able to afford residential training due to high cost of operating the institutions .Issues of transport, accommodation, food/catering etc make education very expensive. In distance learning all these costs are avoided thus making the courses affordable by almost everyone

d)         Admission Requirements:
Many people are denied direct admission to learning institutions based on strict admission grades/marks. Such institutions fail to recognize other factors or individual strength for example experience and personal commitment.

e)         Strict calendars:
Many institutions have strict calendars and time tables that dictate main institution events. This factor denies opportunities to those  people who can not adhere to such calendars or time tables of learning.

f)         Age:
Conventionally, learning is seen to be a preserve of young people who are establishing a career. This notion de-motivates mature people to seek further training. Mixing mature and young people in a traditional class set up does not work. In distance learning age becomes relative.
